Ferreira has been suspended 17 months by the USADA for a failed drug test back in April, Damon Martin of Fox Sports reports.
Ferreira had already been suspended for one year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, but this will just expand that by five months. The suspension is retroactive back to the April 29 test date, meaning he is eligible to return at the ned of September 2017. Ferreira had declared the use of one banned substance prior to the drug test, but the test found a second banned substance in his system.

Fantasy AnalysisFerreira was flagged for a potential anti-doping violation in mid-May due to an out-of-competition positive sample, and nearly two months later, an official suspension was handed down. The lightweight fighter will not be fined because he did not receive a resulting purse from any fight, and he'll need to provide a clean test sample before reinstatement is considered. Ferreira began his MMA career on a 9-0 run, but faltered when he started to face better competition, losing back-to-back bouts to Beneil Dariush and Dustin Poirier. The 31-year-old Brazilian rebounded with a victory over Olivier Aubin-Mercier, but the recent positive test forced his withdrawal from a scheduled bout against Abel Trujillo. By the time Ferreira is eligible to be reinstated, he will be at least 15 months removed from the octagon.
Fantasy AnalysisAs a precaution, Ferreira has been pulled from his scheduled fight against Abel Trujillo. Ferreira will be able to appeal any findings before the USADA enforces any punishment for the infraction. Depending on what the USADA found in its May 29 test on Ferreira, the fighter could face a suspension of at least two years.
Fantasy AnalysisFerreira had lost two back-to-back fights against tough customers in Dustin Poirier and Beneil Dariush, but he easily handled OAM in this one. The ground game of the Brazilian is absolutely ridiculous and he easily controlled Aubin-Mercier in virtually all of the exchanges on the mat. Ferreira doesn't have the striking ability to earn stoppage victories over better fighters, but he can beat anyone who is stupid enough to get into a ground exchange with him.
Fantasy AnalysisA victory will likely be necessary for Diego to keep his roster spot -- Ferreira has absorbed tough losses to Beneil Dariush and Dustin Poirier in his last two contests. A veteran of the Legacy Fighting Championships promotion, Diego will look to impose a smothering ground game on his younger opponent.
