Injury News Updates:

English Premier League (EPL)

Major League Soccer (MLS)

Boniek Garcia    M    Houston Dynamo
García picked up an inury Saturday against NYCFC.

Fantasy Analysis

It was an especially frustrated García who went down at the start of the second half with an injury to his leg. García has been unable to find regular starting minutes this season for Houston, so this injury was particularly tough for him as it came in a rare start. Houston play at home on short rest Wednesday against the Los Angeles Galaxy, so it seems unlikely that García will be ready to go for that match.
Bastian Schweinsteiger    M    Chicago Fire
Schweinsteiger (calf) is not in the 18-man lineup Saturday against Philadelphia.

Fantasy Analysis

Schweinsteiger continues to be sidelined with a calf injury, that kept him out of the past two matches. Drew Conner will take starting spot in the midfield.
Jozy Altidore    F    Toronto FC
Altidore (lower body) is not in the 18-man lineup Saturday against New England.

Fantasy Analysis

Altidore is missing his third straight match with the injury Saturday. His continued absence, along with Sebastian Giovinco's quad injury, greatly reduces the attacking power of Toronto,
Cristian Higuita    M    Orlando City SC
Higuita is out with a calf injury for Sunday's match with the Portland Timbers.

Fantasy Analysis

Higuita is the top option at defensive midfield for Orlando. When he is in the lineup the team is much harder to score on, so look to see if he is in the lineup to gauge the strength of team's midfield.
Dairon Asprilla    M    Portland Timbers
Asprilla is out with illness for Sunday's match against Orlando City SC.

Fantasy Analysis

Asprilla is not needed as much this week, as he would have started the game on the bench anyway. There will be less attacking firepower with Asprilla out, but it is not much of a downgrade overall.
Daniel Salloi    F    Sporting Kansas City
Salloi picked up a hip injury in Wednesday's US Open Cup Final against the New York Red Bulls.

Fantasy Analysis

Salloi has become a strong part of the Kansas City attack in a short amount of time. He is a piece to build on for the future, and his absence will be felt immediately. Latif Blessing will likely fill in for Salloi in the meanwhile.
Chad Marshall    D    Seattle Sounders FC
Marshall is questionable for Saturday's match against Real Salt Lake.

Fantasy Analysis

Marshall picked up a hamstring injury after the last match against the Los Angeles Galaxy. His absence from the lineup would be a big blow to the Seattle back line.
Philippe Senderos    D    Houston Dynamo
Senderos is questionable for Saturday's match against New York City FC with a right adductor strain.

Fantasy Analysis

Senderos left the match on September 9 against the Colorado Rapids with what was later diagnosed as a right adductor injury. It was his team debut, and a tough start to what could have been a key addition to the back line. In all honesty, the Houston back line something special going before Senderos' arrival, so there is no need to worry too much about the Dynamo defense.
Yangel Herrera    M    New York City FC
Herrera (groin) will not be available for selection Saturday against the Dynamo.

Fantasy Analysis

Herrera is a big loss for NYC, and his absence is especially critical because his partner in the defensive midfield, Alexander Ring, is questionable to play. As seen in Saturday's draw with the Rapids, NYC is going to struggle to collect points without its two generals in the midfield.
David Guzman    M    Portland Timbers
Guzman picked up a quad injury last match and is questionable for Sunday's game against Orlando, reports The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

The absence of Guzman in the starting XI will mix things up for the Timbers, but they have a number of guys to turn to in the midfield. In a favorable spot, the Timbers are a good side to back against Orlando, especially if Fanendo Adi returns up front.
Fanendo Adi    F    Portland Timbers
Adi has missed the last month-plus due to a hamstring injury, but is hopeful to return to training ahead of Sunday's match against Orlando, reports The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

It was clearly a severe hamstring injury for Adi, who has missed the last six matches. Unfortunately, even if he returns, it probably won't be in the starting XI in his first game back. Darren Mattocks should draw another start up front in a favorable spot.
Diego Rubio    F    Sporting Kansas City
Rubio left the field limping in Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup win over the Red Bulls. He was replaced by Kevin Oliveira and is questionable for Sunday's match against the Galaxy.

Fantasy Analysis

It's unknown if Rubio actually picked up an injury, but putting Oliveira into the lineup late in the match surely wasn't for strategy. Rubio is questionable for Sunday's match against the Galaxy with the starting XI undetermined for SKC.
Gerso Fernandes    M    Sporting Kansas City
Fernandes dislocated his shoulder in Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup win against the Red Bulls.

Fantasy Analysis

Already on a short week, the injury to Fernandes doesn't help with the Galaxy coming to town on Sunday. Jimmy Medranda came on for him in this match and could draw the start against Los Angeles.
Latif Blessing    F/M    Sporting Kansas City
Blessing scored the opener and then left injured in Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup win against the Red Bulls.

Fantasy Analysis

Blessing has been in-and-out of the lineup this season, but will likely miss this Sunday's match against the Galaxy due to injury. He has three goals this season and no assists.
Jermaine Jones    M    Los Angeles Galaxy
Jones picked up a first half red card Wedensday against Atlanta.

Fantasy Analysis

The "Least Surprising Red Card of the Year Award" was handed to Jones on his way off the field after the Galaxy had gone down 3-0 in the first 20 minutes. Jones will be suspended at least for Sunday's match at Sporting Kansas City.
Brandon Vazquez    F    Atlanta United
Vázquez picked up a late red card Wedensday against Los Angeles.

Fantasy Analysis

Vázquez got a questionable late red card, but VAR did not result in it getting overruled. As such, Vázquez will miss the next match when Atlanta play at home on short rest Sunday against Montreal.
Daniel Steres    D    Los Angeles Galaxy
Steres is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks because of a L2-4 transverse process fracture, the club announced Tuesday.

Fantasy Analysis

Steres suffered the injury back on Sept. 10 against the Sounders, and his absence is likely to keep him from playing again this season. With Jelle Van Damme gone as well, the Galaxy are expected to rely on Dave Romney, Michael Ciani and Hugo Arellano in central defense.
Sebastian Giovinco    F    Toronto FC
Giovinco will undergo a scan Tuesday to determine how long he will be sidelined with his quad injury, according to Kristian Jack of TSN.

Fantasy Analysis

The severity of Giovinco's injury was a bit unclear, though needing a scan certainly doesn't bring optimism that he'll return soon. With Jozy Altidore ruled out for Wednesday's match against Montreal as well, Toronto will be shorthanded in the attack again.
Jonathan Spector    D    Orlando City SC
Spector returned from injury but picked up a knock and was substituted in the 59th minute of Saturday's 3-3 draw at Atlanta.

Fantasy Analysis

Spector is a big part of Orlando City's backline, and if he's forced to miss more time, it would be insult to injury as a frustrating season winds down. Léo Pereira subbed in for him and could see more playing time if Spector is out for an extended period.
Bradley Diallo    D    Los Angeles Galaxy
Diallo left Saturday's match against Toronto early with a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Analysis

Diallo has been in-and-out of the starting lineup all season and a new injury won't help his situation. Nathan Smith replaced him in this match.
Krisztian Nemeth    F    New England Revolution
Nemeth got a straight red card early Saturday against Sporting Kansas City.

Fantasy Analysis

It was not a happy return to his old MLS home for Nemeth who saw red in the 11th minute and will miss New England's next match at home against Toronto on Saturday.
Juninho    M    Chicago Fire
Juninho (undisclosed) is not in the 18-man lineupSaturday against D.C.

Fantasy Analysis

Juninho suffered the injury during training Thursday, and was unable to recover for Saturday. He could possibly make his return to the lineup next weekend against Philadelphia.
Patrick Doody    D    Chicago Fire
Doody did not play in last weekend's match against the Red Bulls because of a hamstring injury, and he has been limited to running in practice this week, CSN Chicago reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Doody's absence would be a blow to the Fire's defensive depth, though he was going to find a start hard to come by with with Brandon Vincent back from his own injury.
Patrick Nyarko    F/M    D.C. United
Nyarko remains sidelined because of concussion symptoms, the Washington Post reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Nyarko has been sidelined since July 22 because of the head injury, and with D.C. United all but out of the playoff race, there's little reason to try and rush him back this season.
Taylor Kemp    D    D.C. United
Kemp could miss the rest of the season because of a groin injury, the Washington Post reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Kemp is scheduled to visit a specialist this week and if it is determined that he will require surgery, he will sit out the final weeks of the season. Chris Odoi-Atsem and Nick DeLeon could continue seeing minutes in Kemp's absence.
Lamar Neagle    M    Seattle Sounders FC
Neagle scored the equalizer in the 85th minute of Sunday's 1-1 draw with LA. He subbed into the match just two minutes earlier.

Fantasy Analysis

Neagle made an instant impact off the bench in just his second appearance for Seattle since being traded from D.C. United on August 7. He has little fantasy value as long as he's coming off the bench.
Jordan Morris    F    Seattle Sounders FC
Morris suffered a strained hamstring in Sunday's match against LA.

Fantasy Analysis

Morris left the match in the 61st minute due to the injury and there are concerns he could miss the rest of the season. Will Bruin and Victor Rodriguez could get more playing time in Morris' absence.
Will Johnson    M    Orlando City SC
Johnson was arrested and booked on allegations of domestic violence Wednesday, WFTV in Orlando reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Johnson has been suspended by MLS while investigations by the league and Orlando police are completed.
Kevin Doyle    F    Colorado Rapids
Doyle was substituted in the 27th minute of Saturday's 3-0 loss at LA.

Fantasy Analysis

Doyle looked to have suffered a concussion and will be evaluated ahead of Saturday's game at Houston. Dillon Serna replaced him and could work his way into the starting lineup if Doyle misses more time.
Daniel Royer    M    New York Red Bulls
Royer (knee) will miss another match this weekend, although is set to return to training next week, according to CBS New York.

Fantasy Analysis

Royer has missed the last three matches and will likely miss a few more before he's ready to return. The Red Bulls have five matches in September and early signs have him returning by the end of the month.
John Goossens    M    Chicago Fire
Goossens was seen jogging at training this week, trying to make a return from breaking his ankle, reports Guillermo Rivera of ChicagoNow.

Fantasy Analysis

It'll still likely be a couple weeks before Goossens is close to ready to make a return. He played in just the first match this season and is surely lacking match fitness.
