Coombs will undergo shoulder surgery, but remains hopeful to return prior to the end of the season.

Coombs was pulled early from Saturday's victory over the Alouttes and test results following the game have now determined he'll need surgery. That should result in a multi-week absence for the 24-year-old running back, though the Argonauts have yet to provide a concrete timetable for a return. Coombs is currently targeting a return prior to the end of the 2017 season, but that will largely depend on how quick the recovery process goes. James Wilder could see added carries behind starter Brandon Whitaker with Coombs sidelined in the meantime.

Coombs suffered a shoulder injury in Saturday's victory over the Alouettes, Matthew Scianitti of TSN reports.

The extent of Coombs' setback is not certain, but according to Scianitti, "it doesn't look good." Coombs' next chance to play will come Sunday against the Stampeders, but it appears he could miss that game, and possibly more.

Coombs carried the ball twice for 17 yards and added three catches for 27 yards in Friday's 21-9 loss to the Alouettes.

Ricky Ray's shoulder injury has had a big impact on Coombs' production. The 24-year-old caught 25 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown over the three games prior to Ray getting hurt as the veteran QB increasingly relied on him on underneath routes and screens, but in his last two games the scatback has managed only seven catches for 56 yards. Ray may be able to return for Week 9, but if he doesn't expectations for Coombs should be kept firmly in check.

Coombs hauled in nine receptions for 97 yards in Saturday's 38-27 loss to the Riders.

The 24-year-old's stock has steadily risen the last three weeks, a stretch in which he's tallied 25 of his 37 receptions on the season while compiling 264 yards and a touchdown. Coombs does the overwhelming majority of his damage near the line of scrimmage, as evidenced by his 8.9 yards per reception. However, his sure hands and route running help open up the field for the likes of downfield threats S.J. Green, Armanti Edwards and Jeff Fuller. He'll look to extend his impressive run in a Week 7 showdown with the Stamps.

Coombs caught eight passes for 73 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 27-24 win over the Redblacks.

He also got two carries for nine yards. Coombs continues to thrive as the Argos' top pass-catching option out of the backfield, racking up 28 receptions for 253 yards and a TD through five yards and putting the 24-year-old from Winnipeg firmly on pace for a career year.

Coombs caught eight passes for 94 yards in Thursday's 33-25 loss to the Blue Bombers.

After managing just 86 receiving yards through the first three games of the year, Coombs found his rhythm with Argos quarterback Ricky Ray in Week 4. The fourth-year CFL slotback has yet to haul in more than 486 yards in a season, but he seems well on his way to establishing a new career high in 2017.

Coombs is listed as a starter for Sunday's game against the Tiger-Cats.

Coombs played a running back/slotback hybrid role for the Argonauts the last several years, and he will remain in the same spot this season.

Coombs lost three yards on his only carry but caught five passes for 34 yards in Saturday's loss to the Roughriders.

He's become a bigger part of the Argos' passing attack in recent weeks, catching 14 passes for 88 yards over the last four games. With few reliable options left at wide receiver, expect Coombs to continue seeing steady targets for the remainder of the season.
